What exactly does a Travel Agent Do?

You may not fully understand what a travel agent/consultant does. Here’s why my clients like working with me and come back again and again:

~First, I protect my clients precious vacation dollars and hours. I've been there, seen the hotels, know the locations and I take time to get to know my clients. This allows me to properly match them with the right vacation experience. I’d hate to see anyone wasting money on the wrong vacation, even if it is a great deal.
~Second, I save my clients a lot of time and hassle. There is so much information on the internet these days and it’s hard to know what’s accurate and what’s not. It is my job to know which options/deals are better than others. In addition, I’m the one that sits on hold, checks fares, prices, etc saving hours and hours of mindless time for my clients.
~Third, I can get my clients special treatment that they can’t get on their own. Thanks to my relationships with travel suppliers, I can often get amenities, upgrades and other special VIP touches that my clients don’t have access to. So even though many “do-it-yourself” vacationers may pat themselves on the back for saving the $100, I often get my clients special amenities worth much more than that.
~Fourth, my job doesn’t stop when my clients book their travel. I go the extra mile sharing my travel tips, booking extra special activities, golf tee times, shore excursions, and I love adding my own surprise touches. I also prepare my clients for travel, so there are no surprises. I check if their passports are current, help them with packing advice, and even tipping guidelines.
~Finally, I’m 1 phone call away at all times. If my clients experience unexpected surprises during their travel like a missed connection, they know they have just 1 phone call to make and I will take care of the rest.

The next time you feel the itch to travel, give me a call! I'd love to assist you in planning your family vacation!

For the love of Scotland

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Scotland is one of my FAVORITE countries in the world! The people are friendly, the scenery is breath taking and the best part... it is so affordable! Even with the exchange rate you can plan a week long vacation in Scotland for a very reasonable price.

Fairy Pools, Isle of Skye

The country has something for everyone. Love golf? Secure a tee-time to  play at St Andrews. Love the outdoors? Hike around the Highlands numerous Lochs. Love history? You will find museums and castles around every corner.

Loch Lomond

If you are trying to decide where to vacation this spring look no further! Call me to talk about customizing a Scottish vacation that will fit your needs!

Iceland ~ Land of Fire and Ice

Iceland isn't on most people's "top ten places I must visit" list, but in my opinion it should be. This Nordic European Island has so much to offer! It's an easy 5 hour flight from the east coast and makes for a wonderful short vacation destination. In Iceland you will find a plethora of outdoor activities, friendly people, and amazing nightlife all while being surrounded by the island's natural beauty.

In the summer months you might consider horseback riding tours, hiking and whale watching. Typically in June tourists can also witness Iceland's "nightless summer".

In the winter months you might consider dog sledding or a visit to the geothermal springs at the Blue Lagoon. Keep an eye on the skies at night and you might be lucky enough to witness the Aurora Borealis!

With all that Iceland has to offer, I can't forget to mention price. Iceland Air has a variety of air/hotel/tour packages that make getting from here to there easy and affordable. Call me to inquire about pricing!

Crystal Cruises, You Deserve the Upgrade!

Have you ever cruised with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian or Celebrity? If you love the feeling of a large ship with multiple eateries, casinos, entertainment and amazing ports of call it might be time to consider Crystal Cruises.

Crystal Cruises is a luxury cruise line founded in 1988 and notable for its two medium-sized, high-end ships, the Crystal Symphony and the Crystal Serenity. Each ship holds roughly 1000 guests, keeping the feel of a large cruise liner with a much smaller crowd.

Both ships travel the world and visit various destinations throughout the year. The best selling feature of Crystal is that it is fully all-inclusive! With most cruise lines your cruise fare only includes food, water, tea, and activities on board. Crystals’ cruise fare includes all of these things as well as sodas, fine wines, premium spirits, gratuities, and specialty restaurants.

Crystal is currently running a huge sale now through October 31. Starting as low as $1575 per person, you can enjoy a luxury cruise! Choose from a diverse collection of itineraries exploring the Panama Canal, Caribbean, the Pacific, New England & Canada, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean including itineraries to the Black Sea and Canary Islands. No matter where you go, enjoy the value of limited-time Book Now Cruise-Only Fares and the luxury of the World's Best.

Conde Nast Traveler and Travel and Leisure have both voted Crystal Cruise line the Best Large-Ship Cruise Line for 16 years in a row. If you love cruising, it’s time to cruise with Crystal. You deserve the upgrade!

Rothenburg Germany

One of my favorite towns in Europe is Rothenburg in Germany. Rothenburg is Germany's best-preserved walled town. This town looks like it jumped out of a fairy tale book. It is exactly what most people would imagine a quaint and charming German town to look like. If you ever find yourself in Germany, make sure you spend a day or two in Rothenburg. I'm sure that you will find it as charming as I did!

Uniworld River Cruises

Love cruising? Tired of large ships, long lines and tons of people? It might be time to try a River Cruise! One of my favorite river cruise operators, one I would suggest to anyone considering a river cruise, is Uniworld Boutique River Cruises.
What makes Uniworld different from all other cruise lines? They have a unique partnership with Red Carnation Hotels, an award-winning collection of world-class hotels renowned for its expertise in operating luxury 5-star boutique hotels. Combining the same professional expertise with decades of outstanding nautical experience sets Uniworld apart from other cruise lines.

While each Uniworld ship has its own individual style and personality, all of the ships share the same common threads of distinction, elegance and, most of all, warm and caring service of which provides guests with a uniquely satisfying vacation.

Uniworld offers 40 Itineraries on 13 of the world’s most beautiful rivers. They sail through 20 countries in Europe, Russia, Egypt, China, Vietnam and Cambodia. The average guest capacity is just 130 guests per cruise and all luxury rooms enjoy river views. The best part about Uniworld; it is truly an all inclusive experience! All meals, wine and beer with dinners, and excursions are included in your price.
Uniworld, together with Red Carnation Hotels, has totally redefined a new level of river cruising. They call it boutique cruising and they are the only cruise company that offers this experience. The next time that you decide to take a cruise, consider Uniworld. You won’t be disappointed!

Do Travel Agents Still Exist?
"Why do travel agents still exist?"
With today's technology do you truly need a travel agent? The answer is a resounding "YES"!  Ok, maybe not for the simple things, a round-trip ticket on US Air to visit Grandma or a one-night stay in at a Comfort Inn in Florida, but for family vacations where you are paying over $1000 for a week or two, YES!
Think of it this way.  With big ticket purchases, wouldn't you want to know there was a human you could reach if there were problems versus a computer support email?  Wouldn't you rather know that person lives in your country and has most likely visited the places you're going and been on the cruises you're taking to give you the best advice?  This is difference between punching buttons on an automated phone call where you can never find a human being and calling and getting a helpful person with a single call.
Will you pay more for a travel agent?  In 99% of the cases no, in fact I generally save my clients money by helping them find the best deals and prices.  The fact is we get paid by the suppliers, the cruise lines and resorts, not by the clients.
My honest belief is that the pendulum is now swinging the other direction, away from the Internet and back to human services and personal touches.  When the Internet first came out and people realized they could now book travel themselves most people went that direction.  However, too many families ended up on vacations that were wrong for them, had too many problems when there was no one to call, and spent way more money than they anticipated at the end.  These are the families and people who are coming back to the professionals and these are the people who spread the word that yes, Travel Agents do exist!

Instead of checking a long list of travel Web pages, why not go straight to the source? As your travel agent, we have all the information at our fingertips, saving you several hours in front of a computer screen.
  • Unbiased information:
At DooTravel, our travel agents work for YOU, not for a travel supplier. It makes sense that a happy customer will be a repeat customer.
  • Customer advocacy:
If you have a problem with a particular part of your travel experience, we are here to act on your behalf to help see that restitution is made.
PLUS, we do it all for FREE!
