The only thing that I love more than traveling is saving money! I work with clients of all types... those with unlimited budgets and those with tight budgets. Regardless of the vacation and the attached budget I want to be sure that my clients get the best deals possible.
Over the past few years I have learned all kinds of tips and tricks that help save my clients hundreds of dollars. I'm happy to share a few of those with you today.
1. Plan and Book in Advance
I have said this before and I will say it again, plan and book your trip early! Those last minute savings that you hear about rarely work out. More often than not you will pay a high price when planning a vacation within weeks of traveling.
2. Flexibility
This isn't always doable but having wiggle room within your travel plans can save you money. If your dates are flexible you could save hundreds but even being flexible with flight times can help. Early morning flights (and I mean EARLY) can help cut down the cost by fifty to a couple hundred dollars!
3. Travel during the "shoulder" or off seasons
Airfare to Europe during the off season costs about 1/3 of the price that you would pay if traveling in the summer. Hotels and tour guides are also available at a fraction of the cost. While the weather might be chilly, the savings are huge. As a bonus, you wont have to fight the crowds of tourists to see the major attractions and museums! The same rule applies to the Caribbean. The "shoulder" season offers great rates and great weather at a fraction of the cost!
4. Travel on the Weekdays
Specifically when flying International fly Monday-Thursday if possible. You can save around $100 alone by just avoiding the weekend surcharges!
5. Think "Local"
Renting a car? Rent through a local company for the best price. Hungry? Eat at a small local restaurant outside of the tourist areas. Looking for a drink? Indulge in local beers and wines. These simple acts will save you money and provide you with an authentic experience!
6. Talk to an expert
Yes, I am a bit biased because I am a travel agent but honestly, I can save you time and money! Travel agents spend all of their working hours analyzing flight routes, rates and policies, learning about the newest resorts and studying up on the latest travel hot spots. Name your budget and I will be sure that you get the best experience possible for the money you work so hard to save!
